Elastomeric coatings are engineered for flexibility. With the ability to stretch over 300% without cracking, they're ideal for buildings that experience significant thermal movement or have existing surface cracks.
Unlike rigid coatings that can crack as buildings expand and contract, elastomeric maintains its seal through seasonal temperature changes. This makes them particularly valuable for Ohio's climate with its hot summers and cold winters.
Crack Bridging Capability
Elastomeric coatings can bridge and seal hairline cracks up to 1/16" wide. For roofs with surface crazing or minor cracking, elastomeric can restore waterproof integrity without costly repairs.
Elastomeric Excels When:

Elastomeric Advantages.
When flexibility and crack-bridging are priorities, elastomeric delivers.
Extreme Flexibility
Elastomeric coatings stretch up to 300% without cracking, accommodating building movement and temperature cycling.
Bridges Small Cracks
The elastic nature allows the coating to bridge and seal hairline cracks up to 1/16" wide in the existing roof surface.
Temperature Resistant
Performs well in extreme temperatures, expanding in heat and contracting in cold without losing adhesion or cracking.
Multiple Substrates
Excellent adhesion to diverse surfaces including concrete, stucco, wood, metal, masonry, and most roofing materials.
Energy Efficient
Reflective white surface reduces cooling costs by reflecting solar heat. Maintains flexibility even with high reflectivity.
Durable Protection
Thick-film application provides excellent waterproofing and protection against weather, UV exposure, and environmental stress.

Elastomeric FAQs.
Elastomeric coatings are defined by their flexibility—they can stretch 300% or more without breaking. This makes them ideal for roofs with movement, thermal cycling, or hairline cracks. Silicone is best for ponding water, acrylic is most affordable, but elastomeric excels at accommodating building movement.
Yes, elastomeric coatings can bridge and seal hairline cracks up to approximately 1/16" wide. For larger cracks, we fill them with compatible sealant before coating application. The elastic properties help prevent new cracks from forming as the building expands and contracts.
Elastomeric coatings provide excellent waterproofing when properly applied at recommended thickness. However, like acrylic, they're not ideal for areas with prolonged ponding water. For roofs with drainage issues, silicone is the better choice. Elastomeric works best on roofs where water drains within 48 hours.
Elastomeric coatings are typically applied at 20-30 mils dry film thickness, achieved through multiple coats. The first coat fills surface imperfections, and subsequent coats build up the protective membrane. We verify thickness throughout application to ensure proper coverage.
Elastomeric coatings have excellent adhesion to most substrates including metal, concrete, stucco, wood, masonry, built-up roofing, modified bitumen, and single-ply membranes. This versatility makes elastomeric ideal for buildings with multiple roof types or complex surfaces.
Quality elastomeric coatings last 10-15 years with proper application and maintenance. Lifespan depends on climate, UV exposure, and maintenance. Like other coatings, elastomeric can be recoated to extend protection indefinitely without tear-off.
